NL Minister Schippers informs Parliament about limits for BPA

26 October 2017

In a letter of 29 September 2017, Minister Schippers informs the Dutch House of Representatives about the current situation concerning the ‘motie Ouwehand’ in which the government is requested to introduce a ban on Bisphenol A (BPA) in food contact materials. The European Commission has been working on lowering the limits for BPA in these materials since 2016. On 25 September the toxicology section of the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (SCoPAFF tox) discussed a draft Regulation that amends Regulation (EU) No 10/2011 as regards the use of BPA in plastic food contact materials. The limits decimate the maximum possible exposure without causing legal or practical problems.
