NL: Quality requirements PET trays + mixed Polyolefin waste

29 June 2016

The Netherlands Institute for Sustainable Packaging (KIDV) has published two new specifications with quality requirements for plastic packaging waste: one for PET trays, and one for Mixed Polyolefin (MPO). They also announced that an existing DKR specification can be used for polystyrene (PS). Technological developments make it possible to sort and recycle new plastic mono streams from the residual packaging waste. Up until now, municipalities and industrial waste sorters do not separate these new streams, because there were no quality requirements available; municipalities are then not compensated by the Dutch Packaging Waste Fund for sorting these streams (News Item KIDV, 6 June 2016).
