NL: Information published about ban on free plastic bags

12 January 2016

The draft regulations concerning the ban on free plastic bags were discussed in the Dutch House on 17 December 2015 and a press release was published. The regulations that came into force on 1 January 2016 introduce a ban on giving away free plastic bags at points of sale. The ban applies to all plastic bags regardless of how thick or thin they are, even though there are some exceptions. On 18 December 2015 the final regulations were published.
The government has published a document to help companies prepare themselves. There is also a Question and Answer document to help shopkeepers comply with the rules and one with information about what the rules will mean for consumers.
