Antioxidant multilayer packaging with green tea extract
Researchers at the University of Zaragoza in Spain studied the performance of antioxidant multilayer packaging containing green tea extract with real food and in industrial conditions. Two types of food (dark chocolate peanuts and milk chocolate cereals) were packaged and tested during 16 months.
The packaging material was produced at an industrial level, as a new prototype, following the indications from previous research. The green tea extract was grafted in the internal layer of a multilayer, from where it acts as radical scavenger. Antioxidant performance of the packaging was demonstrated. An article about the research is published in Innovative Food Science & Emerging Technologies.
