Market for biodegradable and compostable packaging
According to a recent Smithers report, the global biodegradable and compostable packaging market is forecast to grow through to 2029 at more than twice the rate of growth for the packaging market as a whole. More information can be found in a Q&A.

Market for packaging printing
Another Smithers report predicts that the global market value of packaging printing will reach $512 billion in 2024, and will grow to $695 billion in 2029. You can download an infographic after filling in your details.

Packaging machinery
The International Federation of Robotics (IFR) reports that in 2023 there were more than 4 million robots operating in factories around the world - a growth rate of 10% compared to 2022. You can find more information in an executive summary (565 kB) of the World Robotics 2024 report.
PMMI has published a report entitled ‘2024 Contract Packaging & Manufacturing: Drivers of Machinery Investments’. The report shows a bright future: three quarters of the contract packaging/manufacturing companies interviewed predict that their business will grow year-over-year for the next three years. Food packaging
The Food Industry Monitor (in Dutch, 3.22 MB) for 2023 by FNLI (in Dutch) shows that the peak of the prices for packaging materials was in the summer of 2022. Since then, the prices have stabilised.
For her master thesis (5.24 MB) at Linköping University, Thitima Dulyapitak investigated design concepts for white label food packaging in collaboration with Inter IKEA within the scope and context of non-IKEA branded food products.
Researchers from the Vanke Meisha Academy studied chocolate packaging and its effects on consumer purchasing decisions. They explored three elements of packaging: colour, background image and the information label. The study (419 kB) is published in Highlights in Business, Economics and Management.

Consumers and the environment
New research (3.88 MB) from Bain & Company points to a sharp decline in CEOs’ relative prioritisation of sustainability, as AI, growth, inflation and geopolitical uncertainty have risen to the top of their agendas. On the other hand, concerns about sustainability remain high for consumers with packaging and recyclability surfacing as key concerns.

Dutch trade magazine Vraag en Aanbod publishes a weekly overview of the prices for plastics (in Dutch). The prices given are estimated averages between the gross prices published in the trade journals and the net prices.
