Corrugated packaging
The European corrugated packaging industry is experiencing significant M&A activity. According to a recent report (207 kB) by the Rabobank, this trend is expected to continue over the next decade.

Packaging machinery
UCIMA reports that the Italian packaging machinery market is continuing to flourish, increasing year after year. The sector recorded a total turnover of €9.229 billion during 2023, which marks an 8% rise against the previous year.
Statistics (116 kB) published by VDMA show that the production of food processing and packaging machinery in Germany increased by 5% to €16.5 billion in 2023.

Labels, adhesives and sealants
According to recent Smithers report, the global market value of printed packaging labels will reach $44.8 billion in 2024, and will grow to $54.1 billion in 2029. Packaging is the most important sector for hot melt consumption (29.4% market share in 2021).

Consumers and packaging
A survey by L.E.K. Consulting shows that while consumer sentiment around sustainability is clear, the degree to which consumers are willing to act or spend more is somewhat mixed. You can download the report after filling in your details.
A survey (summary, 547 kB) by ALL4PACK finds that almost two thirds of French people (63%) pay attention to product packaging when making their purchases, with the main concerns being the practicality of the packaging and environmental information.
In a UMass Amherst study, U.S. consumers ranked packaging choices from the most to least sustainable. Overall the consumers responded: glass, carton, aluminium and plastic.

Prices for plastics
Dutch trade magazine Vraag en Aanbod publishes a weekly overview of the prices for plastics (in Dutch). The prices given are estimated averages between the gross prices published in the trade journals and the net prices.
