IC2 releases Alternatives Assessment Guide for chemical substitutions
After 20 months of development, the IC2 Alternatives Assessment Guide, has been released by the Interstate Chemicals Clearinghouse. It is a set of tools that manufacturers, product designers, businesses, governments, and other interested parties can use to make better, more informed decisions about the use of toxic chemicals in their products or processes.
There are five steps in implementing an alternatives assessment (AA), according to the I2C. They are: identifying chemicals of concern, conducting an initial evaluation, scoping, identifying alternatives, and evaluating alternatives. The guide maps these steps across eleven modules (State Recycling Laws Update, 13 January 2014).
