The current state of third party logistics

The benefits of outsourcing logistics has been studied by Penn State University in collaboration with Korn Ferry, Penske and Capgemini Consulting. Results show that outsourcing logistics can reap many benefits such as better planned and executed transportation management, warehouse management and improved electronic data interchange. Positive results can be seen in the 9% average logistic cost reduction, 5% average inventory cost reduction and a 15% fixed logistic cost reduction.
The report also stresses the importance of the omni channel retailing landscape, fulfilment and delivery strategies and their role for the consumer’s online shopping experience.
