EFSA Scientific Opinion on the safety assessment of the “Phoenix - LNOc” process used to recycle post-consumer PET into food contact materials
On June 6 the EFSA Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids published its scientific opinion on the safety assessment of the recycling process Phoenix – LNOc process.
The Panel concluded that the recycled PET obtained from the process Phoenix LNOc intended to be used for the manufacture of materials and articles for contact with all types of foodstuffs for hot fill and/or long term storage at room temperature is not considered of safety concern when final articles are manufactured with the specified percentages of recycled post-consumer PET. Trays made of this recycled PET should not be used in microwave and conventional ovens (EFSA Journal, 6 June 2014).
