EFSA: BPA opinion adopted; to be published in January 2015
EFSA’s experts have finalised and adopted their scientific opinion on the risks to public health from bisphenol A (BPA) in foodstuffs. The milestone follows a comprehensive risk assessment of this substance. BPA is a chemical used to manufacture plastics and resins that are used in a variety of food contact materials as well as other consumer and industrial products.
The Panel on Food Contact Materials, Enzymes, Flavourings and Processing Aids adopted the opinion during its 10-11 December plenary meeting. EFSA will publish the opinion by the end of January 2015, allowing the necessary time for formatting and a thorough editorial check (EFSA News in brief, 12 December 2014).
