Animal welfare becoming more important when buying meat

30 September 2016

Consumers increasingly prefer to buy meat where animal welfare has had more attention during the process. This is one of the findings of the 5th edition of the Vion Consumer Monitor.
Concepts that represent quality in the eyes of the consumer, such as organic meat and meat with welfare quality labels, are becoming increasingly popular. Consumers are prepared to pay more for these products. 60% are of the opinion that Dutch meat is of excellent quality and are willing to pay more for it. Origin has been playing an important role for some time in the purchase of meat, and it is expected that this will become even more relevant in future (Press Release Vion, 12 September 2016).
