Colombia: Decree establishes requirements for environmental marketing claims
In late July 2014 the Colombian government issued Decree 1369, which establishes requirements for environmental advertising or “green marketing” claims. The requirements that environmental claims must meet are, for example, that they must be objective and provable, be based on tests, research, studies or other evidence and be complete, accurate, transparent, timely, verifiable, current, comprehensive, accurate and suitable and not omit relevant information that may mislead consumers.
Decree 1369 takes effect in approximately four months. The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism will be responsible for the monitoring (Recycling Laws International, 4 September 2014).
