Cobots no danger (yet) for jobs in logistics

29 June 2016

At the moment, cobots or ‘collaborative robots’ can only be used in few logistic processes. This is one of the conclusions of the project ‘Cobots in Logistics’ of the Flanders Institute for Logistics (VIL). The usability often also requires adaptations in the existing logistic processes (the way in which goods are conveyed, standardisation of the packaging). The feasibility depends for a large part on the weight, the volume, and the ‘pickability’ of the products, how often there are product changes on the lines, and the desired speed.
The calculated business cases show that when the use of a cobot is possible, this positively influences the process costs (Press Release VIL, 9 June 2016).
