CLP Labels – make sure you’re legal after 1 June 2017

19 May 2017

The two-year transition period to comply with the Classification, Labelling and Packaging Regulation (CLP) is about to end. Everyone in the supply chain, from retailers to manufacturers, is affected.
From 1 June 2017, distributors are not allowed to sell any products with the old classification and labelling. Retailers can only have products with the new CLP labels on the shelves. Even if they have products with old labels in stock, after 1 June, they can no longer sell them. They need to remove them from the shelves unless they have agreed with their supplier that they provide them with new labels and their packaging complies with the CLP requirements (ECHA Newsletter, 18 May 2017).
