Brazil: Parana approves state law requiring recycling labels on packaging
The Parana Legislative Assembly has approved a bill that requires packaging producers and product importers to provide consumers with information on how to recycle their packaging.
Not only must information about recycling the packaging appear on its label, the label must also provide a barcode that can be scanned by consumers to obtain additional information about packaging recycling requirements from an online database. The name, address and email address of the nearest packaging waste take back facility should be accessible to consumers using the database. The law went into effect on the day it was gazetted (Recycling Laws International, 10 December 2013).
