BE: Ban on plastic bags before long

26 May 2016

Flanders will soon say farewell to the conventional plastic bags. That was the answer of minister Schauvliege (CD&V) recently in the Belgian Flemish Parliament to questions by Bart Nevens (N-VA). It is not the first time he has pleaded for that sort of ban. After the decisions of France and Italy to ban plastic bags, earlier this week Walloon minister of Environment Di Antonio put a draft decree on the table to move towards a ban in the south of the country as well. Minister Schauvliege now seconds that.
Nevens also argued that the option of biobased plastics should be investigated. The minister promised he would also look into this option (Press Release N-VA, 11 May 2016).
