Lund University has published a paper (165 kB) in the International Journal of Physical Distribution & Logistics Management entitled “Packaging paradoxes in food supply chains exploring characteristics, underlying reasons and management strategies”.

Artificial Intelligence in manufacturing
The Deloitte AI Institute has unveiled a new report that examines business cases for artificial intelligence (AI) across six major industries. The AI Dossier (3.4 MB) helps business leaders understand the value that AI can deliver today and in the future so that they can make smarter decisions about when, where and how to deploy AI within their organisations.
In an article (2.49 MB) published in Frontiers in Robotics and AI, Örebro University researchers discuss a new model that shows that it will take a long time before businesses will be able to benefit from the possibilities offered by artificial intelligence.
TU Wien has published an article about the factory of the future that speaks human language. In the future artificial intelligence will monitor and maintain industrial plants, and to achieve this it must be able to understand human texts. An article about the topic is published in CIRP Annals (abstract).
The Pallet Report: State of the US pallet industry
The US market developments in the use of pallets are analysed in the annual Pallet Report by Modern Materials Handling and Peerless Research Group (PRG). Demand for pallets is running high. However, there was a sharp rise in respondents having issues with availability and cost with used wooden pallets, and a modest rise in companies using semi- or fully-automated pallet wrapping equipment.
New initiative to explore industry 4.0
The Open Industry 4.0 Alliance is working together with Packaging Valley Germany e.V. to jointly realise cross-manufacturer integration in the packaging industry with a focus on master data management, plant analytics and predictive maintenance.
