NL: Repulsive images on tobacco products as of 20 May
State Secretary Van Rijn (Health, Welfare and Sport) is glad the Dutch House of Representatives agreed to the adoption of the European Tobacco Products Directive. This means that repulsive images will be used on tobacco products as of 20 May 2016.
In the debate about the directive, the State Secretary stated that the CBL (Central Bureau Food Retail) has until June to make a plan for the introduction of a display ban for tobacco products. This ban will regulate that tobacco products are kept out of sight in supermarkets. Young people are particularly sensitive to the appearance of packs of cigarettes and brand identities (News Item Government of the Netherlands, 2 February 2016).
