NL: Use of natural resources decreased by 14%

The Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) has published a report that provides what could be considered baseline data for the Netherlands as it begins transitioning to a circular economy. According to the report, the use of natural resources decreased by 14%, the amount of waste produced per kilogram of product decreased between 2008 and 2014, and about 80% of household waste is being recycled.
However, because of increased consumption and more goods being imported, the 'resource consumption 'footprint' increased. Another problematic area is food waste; 38% of 2.5 kilograms of weekly per capita household waste is food (Recycling Laws International Bulletin, 23 November 2016).
