NL: House wants clear quality marks for food and drinks

The proposal of Members of Parliament Fatma Koser Kaya (D66) and Bart de Liefde (VVD) to develop less and clearer quality marks for food and drinks has been adopted.
A proliferation of quality marks makes it impossible for consumers to see the wood for the trees. De Liefde: “Consumers need to be able to rely on quality marks, but at the moment it is a mess.” The liberal proposal urges the government to work together with industry and consumer organisations on a clearer food quality mark system. In this process the amount of quality marks needs to be cut back, making it possible for the consumer to make well-informed choices in the shop and supermarket (News Item D66, 16 February 2016).
