Packaging markets and trends
GoodFirms has conducted a survey on current trends and future demands in the packaging market. The Pentawards Trends Report 22-23 that you can download after filling in your details, gives ten packaging design trends based on 2022 competition entries. The future of sustainable packaging options is discussed in a recent PMMI report that you can download after filling in your details. In the period leading to interpack 2023 (4-10 May) the organisation is publishing a number of articles. The first one is about pharmaceutical packaging and the second is about packaging for beverages. According to Smithers, the worldwide demand for fibre-based packaging will grow from $425.4 billion in 2022 to $503.4 billion in 2027. You can download an infographic after filling in your details. Packaging machinery and robotics
A report by Aeternus (in Dutch) discusses the robotics market and the top 20 best-performing robotics companies in the Netherlands. Based on preliminary figures, UCIMA (89 kB) reports that for 2022 the Italian packaging machinery manufacturers will reach year-end revenues of €8 billion, 3% down on the all-time record of 2021.
Bioplastics, nanomaterials and resins – market information
According to a new European Bioplastics report (summary, 1.75 MB), global bioplastics production is set to increase from around 2.23 million tonnes in 2022 to approximately 6.3 million tonnes in 2027. A study (3.21 MB) by EUON predicts that the European nanomaterial market will grow in volume and value between 2021–2025. The study provides a list of nanomaterials currently on the market and identifies key market operators. According to a recent report by Fortune Business Insights, the global resin market is expected to exhibit strong growth and reach $752.26 billion by 2029. Trends in the food and beverage industry
Mintel has announced four trends set to impact global food and drink industries in 2023 and beyond. You will receive the report by email after filling in your details. The Food Industry Monitor 2022 (in Dutch, 2.93 MB) by FNLI (in Dutch) shows that the Dutch food sector faced unusually high cost price increases in the second half of 2021, for example for packaging materials. Rabobank (in Dutch) has announced five trends set to impact the Dutch food market.
Consumer behaviour
In an article (1.08 MB) published in Coatings, USAMV researchers study consumers’ preference for and loyalty towards biopolymer films for active food packaging. On 15 December 2022, Silke Jonkman held a speech entitled ‘Enhancement of the User Experience of Energy Gel Consumption in (marathon) Running through Design‘ as part of her master assignment at the University of Twente. Chairman of the assessment committee was prof. Roland ten Klooster who holds the NVC Chair Packaging Design and Management.
