DE: Draft act separate collection household waste sent to EC

23 January 2017

Germany has sent a draft act to the European Commission on the further development of the separate collection of reusable household waste. The standstill period ends on 9 March 2017.
To achieve even better recovery results, the most recycling-friendly design possible should be considered as early as possible in the packaging production stage. Previously, the participation fees for household collection systems were predominantly focused on the mass of materials used. In future, they must also focus on subsequent usability, and so lower fees should apply to well-sortable and recyclable packaging. Participation fees should also take into account higher use of recyclates and renewable raw materials.
